When a patrol deputy takes a major incident report in the field, it is routed to the sheriff and the investigator for follow-up. Depending on the type of incident, the report could be routed to another county, state or federal agency for assistance with the investigation. These agencies include, but are not limited to, local police departments, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Department of Natural Resources, the Wilcox County Coroner’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, sheriff’s offices in surrounding counties and others. All available resources are utilized as we attempt to solve past crimes and prevent new ones being committed in the future.
